Well come to think of it, I've become pretty much sick of my surroundings.
I've become sick of unfriendly people, sick of indifferent people, sick of ignorant and arrogant people and from here, the list would probably go on.

Though a bus ride a little while ago managed to provoke a thought in my head. That being there are definitely many good and genuine people out there whose intentions are true; you just hardly see or hear of them. And when you do come across these diamonds in the rough, they sparkle like the gems they truly are, leaving you thoroughly mesmerized.

Until that happens to me, I'll just continue thinking that many Singaporean youths and young adults nowadays not only lack in ethical and moral stature, they do not carry themselves with the same integrity and mental fortitude as did the generation that came before us.

I see KIDS barely a day older than fourteen nonchalantly drawing smoke from cigarettes.
I see boys aged seventeen caught up in the latest trend of ugly hair and pink and black-striped bootleg t-shirts.
I see girls of the same age dressed in two fashions- one to impress and the other as undressed. Yet these two groups share common traits- Materialism and Possession.

I have not heard anything but selfish talk over which boy they would yearn to date because of his wealth. I have not heard anything but chatter over goods they could never afford but would not even bat an eyelid over asking someone ELSE to purchase their prized keeps for them. (Go get a job and pay for them yourselves, you skanks)

Male or female, these teens nowadays only have trash coming out of their mouths simply because that happens to be the only thing that goes into their heads.

Now if I were to conduct a study to see how the average Singaporean teenage would fare in a jungle survival scenario(suppose I pick a sample of 100 youths), everyone would pass. Because I'd expect all 100 cell phones to be picked up and dialled for their parents to get help.
Truth be told, given no training and no common sense, our group would fail MISERABLY.

I will not fall into the trap of stereotyping here because I mentioned at the beginning of my entry that there are a small handful of people who do not behave in such a manner. The odds of coming across such people though are slim.

Just what have we become?
Spoilt? That's for sure.
Ignorant? Check.
Stupid and Myopic? No doubt about it.

And it's partly because many of us have been ingrained with the mindset that just about anything can be solved with money. If we come across difficulty, we pay money. If we get into trouble, we buy our way out. Think again. When parents lose their child or when a loved one dies, can your wealth buy back what is lost? Your money becomes worthless.
When you go through a break up, no amount of money you spend on alcohol could ever drown your sorrows.
When you obtain what you desire that is so priceless and invaluable, something else grander comes along the way and you're thrown into another episode which goes full cycle.

People think that I waste my time hitting myself too hard with the facts of reality and what the world truly looks like. But it's all for good cause. People do not know how cold the world can truly be, and I do not want to be the one caught with my freaking pants down for the world to see.

I hope this is a message that will go out to everyone who reads this. Prepare yourself for what is to come because no amount of preparation could gear you for the unknown.
Ironic isn't it? But think about it this way, what if you told yourself you never had a need to learn self-defense?
You decide to take a trip to tour the streets of Germany, and before you know it, you get stabbed and mobbed by a group of racist hoodlums?

Being complacent, our natural instinct would be to assume that such an event would never occur. But I emphasize again, the probability will always be there. It may not be in Germany or anywhere else in the world but open your eyes wider and look carefully, it happens right here on your doorstep.

Maybe what a close friend of mine told me was true, "As a society and a civilisation becomes more affluent, its people become corrupt and loses its substance."
