It's amazing..I don't know how I survived or WHAT possessed me to do it but I did it.

I DID IT. I RAN 6.5 KM COVERING MOUNT FABER.

I started from my little block in Telok Blangah Heights and made my way towards the PSA building at Alexandra Road, before eventually turning left at Telok Blangah Road. From there, it was a dreadfully long distance, running by Harbourfront Centre and even arriving at the first entrance of the Keppel Shipyard.

Once there, it was another left for me towards Kampong Bahru past the condos and ultimately towards one bitch of a never-ending hill.

By the time I hit Mt. Faber, my legs could move no further. It felt like all the power had been taken out of them (much like how American-made cars go flat out on fuel in short distances). I was just so damn naive for thinking that the landmark was a simple run up and run down task for me.

By the time I ran by the second private condominium(a nice brick-red estate which can be seen from the road) 300m in, I swear, I was praying to God not to let me collapse and die there; I think I saw vultures beginning to circle.

And THAT...was only just the beginning. The very gates of Hell.

I had NO idea that the slopes there were inclined at 40 degrees. What made it all worse was when I began sprinting up the roads. The body is truly a fascinating thing- When you want it to do things, it tightens a leash around you. Such as when you want to approach a member of the opposite sex and you choke.
But when you DON'T wanna do something, your mind plays an extremely nasty trick on you by choosing to flip that little switch into 'Automatic', and forces your body to push itself to the limits, vehemently against your will.
Such as when your mind says, 'Hey! Go buy that girl a drink!'
(Or in this case, running up a hill which is around 1.5kilometers while in a state of delirium.)

I felt kinda stupid because there I was struggling with the run and rich business people in the shirt and ties in their fancy Merecedes cars were all zipping past me in such a paradoxically casual fashion.

I wondered what was going through their minds at the moment because I noticed that some of them were staring at me as though they had never seen someone exercise in their life. Not to be racist but they were Indian ;)

So one century later, I hit the top of Mt. Faber where I finally decide to W-A-L-K and give myself a breather to recover, and soak up the scenery at the same time. Mind you, it's a good place to enjoy the view. Anyone keen on going with me the next time?

At the same time, I'm wondering how long the stupid run DOWN is gonna be. Fast Forward and I eventually discover that it's another 1.5km, making the entire course from start to finish a good 3 kilometers.

When I began to run back towards home, all that was going through my mind was, 'Shit..I'm hot, I'm sweaty, I'm virtually going crazy and I need a drink.'

My legs were tender,my ass was sore and my thighs felt like they were on fire. All I wanted to do was to take a big pack of ice and nest it in between my sore thighs to cool them down.

All this was done just two days ago on Monday. What took place on Tuesday was just as bad at the gym. It was training with Mr. Tan again and squatting 150kilos worth of weight at 9.30am in the morning sure wakes your body up.

I can just imagine you guys asking, "WHY do you even do this??"
My answer is this, "To keep fit mah! Don't complain about your body..DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!"

All too often I've seen people who are unsatisfied with some physical aspect of their appearance but all they ever do is whine and sulk about it. I just wanna set an example for my friends and the people around me to show that training (as I like to call it), is something that you have to do yourself and it is something you will definitely grow to love.

It may seem arduous to you, but take note, I'm not a runner, I never ran because my sport didn't require me to- that's why it was kinda tough for me.
If you choose to pick up a sport (for weight loss or to shed bodyfat), don't make running the first priority. I've done it too many times to know that running makes you sweat, but it doesn't burn your fat.

Too many people run in Singapore, yet none of them look like Olympic class runners. It says something doesn't it?
To those starting out on an exercise regiment, have the motivation to pick up an activity which you know will challenge you but allow you to have fun at the same time! (Hey, go take up Capoeira but not the ones at the commercial gyms..it works wonders for your entire body.)
