Excluding the fact that Russell Peters said Indians aren't physically prepared to do hard, physical labor etc etc, I'd say it's all got to do with the cultural upbringing of the people in India. I mean, you talk about sprinters and yea, perhaps the sport of running is unknowingly integrated into the way of life. Why? Because the only bouts of short distance spurts of speed I can imagine are the workers in Delhi running after a train that's just left a station. And when you wanna talk about long distance events, I'd say it has to be after all those years and years of being chased by tigers in the jungles that make the people in Bengal so fit.
Now in our modern context, equestrian sport continues to be a part of the Olympic program; whether or not it still is, I'm just hoping the bloody stupid sport gets axed. The thing about India is that, the only thing that probably gets close would be Bullock Cart Racing. I kid you not! Go to the Punjab region, you'd find hundreds of men fitted in turbans straddling in a chariot being yanked by two bovine subservients- without a train to chase this time round.
Either that or the only thing I'd picture an Indian man doing would be charming snakes out of baskets.
What about wrestling? You see it all the time in India! Send a truck with rations on it, you'd get the whole town learning the sport.
And swimming? Indian people have been bathing in the Ganges for centuries!
But I'd say the best thing which the Indian people do, is the sport of debating.
Take T.T. Durai for example, that guy put up a pretty solid argument to deny his money channeling schemes! Which kinda actually made me write a song about it.
