So in actual fact, get these statistics first. The very reasons as to why I'm feeling so damned proud of myself. The average age of the field was 24-36. Average weights of the competitors were 115kilos. And as for me, I turned out to be the youngest and LIGHTEST of ALL the competitors baby! Standing at 18 years old and 83kilos, I was 20kilos lighter than the next heaviest competitor!
So now let's do an analysis of the events that I did for today. Since we only had the preliminaries today, the Car Pull and Barrel Load were taken out. Btw, on the actual day itself, the car pull WILL be open to ANYONE who wants to win 5GRAND. You gotta pull a 2.5tonne Subaru Forester over a series of humps using only your upper body. Do that, and it's 5000 clams in your pockets! So anyway, first up came the tire flip. How about flipping a 225 kilo tire over 30m? No, it wasnt 180, we found out the stupid thing weighed 225kilos! And with that, I DARESAY I'm THE strongest bloody 18 yr old in this country! And mind you, it feels BLOODY damned good knowing it's something I can do, will do, and will always be able to do. And looking at other teenagers who stare at me just allows me to sit back and smile to myself. For this event, I made a very decent placing having the third highest timing in the entire pack of 40 participants.
And the Farmer's walk; where I had to walk 30m with 75kilos/per hand(total 150kg) and I placed a third placed timing too! The first was 9.86. Second was 10.18 and I came in with 12.08 and I'm aiming to beat those timings!
Then came the bitch of the truck pull where the object to be moved (Note: TO BE moved) was a 4-tonne SCDF rhino. So just picture an entire container of 50 Sherwins on wheels and you'll get the picture. I made a VERY bad timing of 2mins and 19 secs for this event simply because my shoes lost traction and I kept slipping. For those of you who think this is just an excuse, try wearing my shoes first off, then you try pulling the stupid truck at MY bodyweight where I was at a bloody disadvantage. The best timing was 61 secs made by the top contender. So as you can see, this is event is gonna have to become my pet peeve for the next 2 weeks of training. If you still want proof, COME DOWN TO THE NGEE ANN CITY CIVIC PLAZA ON THE 12TH OF MARCH AND I'LL SHOW YOU WHAT I'M ALL ABOUT!
When I'm going into that competition, I'm going in to prove two things:
- I'm the strongest kid in Singapore
- I'm strong even though I'm considerably so much smaller than the others!
If I'm gonna get somewhere, I'm gonna do everything I can do get there. If I'm going into a Strongman competition, I'm taking an ASS-KICKING WITH ME!
Just for the record, it's a HUGE event where then first prize is 10,000 dollars, second with 3000 and third with 2000. But it's REALLY sad to know that the first place is already taken by my new friend Taufik(61second rhino pull man).
I have special thanks to a special group of people I KNOW will support me. First off Charlotte. You better come down that day babe! I want you to take some pictures! You're gonna make that day free and you're gonna come down with EVERYONE YOU KNOW!
